Mali War College: The 5th Class Makes Its Formal Commencement

The formal commencement of the 5th class of the Mali War College for the 2025-2026 academic year took place this Friday, October 17, 2025, in the school's amphitheater. This event marks the start of classes for 25 students from several African countries. The opening ceremony was chaired by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Oumar Diarra, in the presence of several other military leaders.
The Mali War College celebrated the formal commencement of the 5th class. This major event marks a new stage in the training of Africa's future military leaders. "AFRICAN MILITARY HISTORY" is the theme chosen this year. For the first time, officers from Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, Guinea, Senegal, Cameroon, Togo, and Morocco joined the ranks of Malian students. This outreach to all of Africa is a strong signal of the desire to strengthen military cooperation and cohesion among African brothers in arms.
The inaugural lecture, focused on collective defense, highlighted the common challenges facing countries in Africa and around the world, namely terrorism. The lecturer, Professor Nouhoum Salif Monkoro, emphasized the importance of strong political will and sustainable funding.
This formal start of the new academic year marks a decisive turning point for the Malian War College. By training the region's future military leaders, it contributes to strengthening regional cooperation and addressing common security challenges.
