Marakala: Around 1,600 heads of cattle recovered from the GAT handed over to the authorities by the FAMa

The Malian Armed Forces recovered, on Saturday November 18, 2023, around 1,600 head of cattle in the locality of Ladjiwèrè (Markala), following a special military operation.
The official handover of these animals to the administrative authorities of Markala took place on Monday, November 20, 2023 in the presence of the Commander of Defense Zone No. 2, Colonel Youssouf Oumar Cissé, the Legion Commander of the Gendarmerie of Ségou, the Colonel Témé DIARRA and several other administrative and civil authorities of the city.
According to the Commander of Defense Zone No. 2, Colonel Youssouf Oumar CISSE, the recovery of this important batch of herds is part of the prerogatives of their sovereign mission to protect people and their property.
Colonel CISSE took the opportunity to declare that during this harvest period, an early release of herds into the fields was noticed. And to add that for this purpose a legal framework has been established and will establish the end of the harvests for December 31, 2023.
“I invite the administration to help us through inter-community meeting organizations to remind the various livestock owners of the main points in order to prevent inter-community conflicts,” he maintained.
The 1st deputy mayor of Markala, Mohamed CISSE said he was very happy and relieved by the recovery of these oxen. Because according to him, populations are increasingly victims of this racket. The opportunity was good for him to congratulate the professionalism of the Malian Armed Forces in this feat. He invited the entire population to collaborate with the FAMa so that they can carry out their mission.

Il est certes positif de voir les FAMa réussir à récupérer les 1 600 têtes de bœufs et à les remettre aux autorités, mais cela pose aussi des questions sur la sécurité et la gestion des territoires où ces actions sont nécessaires. La récurrence de ces incidents montre qu'il reste beaucoup à faire pour garantir la sécurité des populations rurales et de leurs biens. Il est crucial que les autorités mettent en place des mesures de prévention plus efficaces afin d'éviter de telles situations à l'avenir et de renforcer la présence de l'État dans ces zones vulnérables.
