As part of the fight against drug trafficking and consumption in Mali, the Central Narcotics Office (OCS), with the support of the National Guard's Anti-Terrorist Forces, conducted a major operation at the Grand Market in Bamako on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 300.607 kilograms of pills, estimated to be worth over 300 million CFA francs, and the arrest of four suspects.
Following the operation, the forces involved seized 300.607 kilograms of pills, including Tramadol, Diazepam, and Valium, as well as shisha equipment. The market value of all the seized goods is estimated at over 300 million CFA francs.
Conducted jointly by the OCS (Central Office for Security and Cooperation) branches in Bamako's Left Bank and Right Bank, with the support of the OCS Operations Division and Intelligence Center, the operation followed several complaints of drug trafficking activities in the area.
At the end of the operation, the forces involved seized 300.607 kilograms of tablets, including Tramadol, Diazepam, and Valium, as well as shisha equipment. The market value of all the seized goods is estimated at over 300 million CFA francs.
According to the Head of the OCS Operations Division, the intervention was made possible thanks to prior intelligence and the cooperation of the local population.
“Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers proceeded with arrests and the seizure of goods stored in several shops,” he stated.
According to the head of operations, this operation demonstrates the need to strengthen surveillance of drug and psychotropic distribution networks, particularly in large commercial areas. He also emphasized the importance of protecting young people, while urging the public to continue providing information that could contribute to dismantling trafficking networks.
Through this latest seizure, the OCS reaffirms its commitment to continuing its operations throughout the country and strengthening cooperation with other forces involved in the fight against narcotics in our nation.
