The 6th administrative region, like the other regions of Mali, celebrated September 22, 2024, marking the 64th anniversary of our country's accession to independence.
Given the terrorist threats throughout the country, the administrative authorities of the region organized the ceremony inside the Ford Ckeick Sidi ABEKHAYE camp on the parade ground.
The event was marked by the presence of administrative authorities, communal authorities, traditional legitimacies and the population, who came out in large numbers.
The ceremony began with the review of the troops, carried out by the commander of military region No. 5, Colonel Seydou Bassirou NIANGADO and the Governor of the region, police controller Bakoum KANTE, followed by the laying of wreaths at the Independence Square.
The highlight was the military parade with all the corporations of civil society. All the Defense and Security Forces marched and it was with joy that the population came out to magnify the said event with their presence.
The mayor of the urban commune Mr. Aboubacrine Alhad CISSE, greeted the population and its defense forces in his speech. He also praised the solidarity, living together, social cohesion and resilience of the communities of Timbuktu in the face of the multidimensional crises that the country is experiencing. He recalled that the population remains committed behind the Army and the Transition authorities who are sparing no effort to bring peace and development to all Malians. Mayor CISSE condemned the attack of September 17 in Bamako and wished the entire Malian community a happy Independence and Maouloud Day. The Governor, Police Controller Bakoun KANTE places this September 22, 2024 in the framework of unity, resilience, living together because the challenges are enormous. After 64 years of independence, he praised the sacrifice of the fathers of independence including Modibo KEITA, Mamadou KONATE, Fily Dabo SISSOKO to name a few. 
He also praised the bravery of the Transition authorities who are fighting day and night so that the aspirations of Malians are a reality, that is to say true sovereignty and the defense of territorial integrity. The Governor emphasized the intensification of FAMa patrols throughout the region, the mass recruitment of young people to serve the nation, the creation of Guard regions, the extension of water supply to the population, the construction and equipment of offices, the provision of 120 schools in the region, the distribution of 2,237 tons of rice to refugees and displaced persons, the subsidy of food, the national vaccination campaign followed by the free distribution of mosquito nets, the recruitment of health workers are among other achievements of the Transition authorities during 2023 - 2024. Other development challenges are underway, noted the Governor who calls on the population to remain as a soldier of peace, to live together and to remain mobilized behind the army and all peace actors.
