KAYES: Tata Tactical Intervention Group Deals a Heavy Blow to an Armed Terrorist Group in Diongaga

The Tata Tactical Intervention Group (GTI) conducted an operation on Thursday, August 20, 2026, against an armed terrorist group in the town of Diongaga, about 30 kilometers from Yélimané, in the Kayes region.
While moving towards Yélimané, the Tata GTI elements, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Samba Gassama, surprised an armed terrorist group operating in the area. The element of surprise and the rapid action of the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) forced the terrorists to hastily abandon their position and flee.
The operation resulted in the neutralization of two terrorists and the recovery of two submachine guns and a PKM machine gun. Two motorcycles and various other items were also seized. During their retreat, the terrorist group also abandoned more than a hundred sheep and goats.

This action reflects the Malian Armed Forces' (FAMa) determination to maintain sustained operational pressure on armed terrorist groups and to continue their disruption in the area. It is fully aligned with the security and control operations conducted in Sector 7 of Operation Dougoukoloko.

Following the operation, the Commander of the Tactical Command Post, Colonel Djibril KONE, congratulated the members of the Tata Tactical Intervention Group (GTI-Tata) for their commitment and the results achieved. He urged them to maintain their level of commitment, vigilance, and determination in carrying out their various missions.
