KAYES: 100 Bricks of Indian Hemp Seized on a Bus

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, officers from the Kayes Territorial Gendarmerie seized 100 bricks of Indian hemp, with an estimated street value of 15 million CFA francs, aboard a bus traveling from Diamou to Kayes.

According to the Commander of the Kayes Territorial Gendarmerie Company, Squadron Leader Brahima COULIBALY, the operation followed a tip-off about a suspicious individual on board the bus. Upon being alerted, the Gendarmerie officers were mobilized to intercept the bus. After the bus was stopped, the gendarmes proceeded to identify and check the passengers. The operation led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect. He disembarked with his luggage and was found in possession of the 100 bricks of Indian hemp. Commending the professionalism and responsiveness of his men, the Commander of the Kayes Territorial Gendarmerie Company particularly commended the Brigade Commander, Lieutenant Abou Drahamane Dembélé, and his team for their commitment to this operation. He also expressed his gratitude to the chain of command for their ongoing support.
Continuing their investigation, the detectives were able to trace the package back to the presumed final recipient, who resides in Diboly, according to Lieutenant Abou Drahamane Dembélé.

Squadron Leader Brahima Coulibaly also praised the cooperation between the local population and the Defense and Security Forces. He urged them to maintain this spirit of cooperation and to continue providing any information that could contribute to the prevention and fight against insecurity in the Kayes region. This operation demonstrates the Territorial Gendarmerie's determination to combat drug trafficking and dismantle the networks involved in the distribution of prohibited goods in the Kayes region.
